Notes on SCCM and PXE imaging
What comes up most when supporting reimages, from PXE failures to a console that will not connect.
I support reimages at Guttman and troubleshoot PXE failures. These are the parts that come up most.
PXE boot
The machine boots from the network and pulls the image. When PXE fails, check the network path first. Is the port on the right VLAN, and can the machine reach the deployment point?
When the console will not connect
The SCCM console would not connect to the site server. Connecting with the site server's internal DNS name instead of the public domain fixed it.
The part nobody sees
Asset records. Every machine that goes out gets tracked, and the records matter later for loaners, repairs, and salvage decisions.
